Facts about Dogs

Here is a quick recap on the basic facts about dogs. Dogs originally descended from wolf family all over the Europe, Asia and North America. Dogs have been companions of human beings for more than 10,000 years. Traditionally, the dogs were categorized as pet dogs, shepherd dogs, house dogs, farm dogs, sporting dogs, war dogs and bull dogs or coolie dogs. Although in the modern world, the classification is still done on more or less similar lines but nowadays, a large number of new breeds of dogs have also been developed.



In USA alone, there are more than 50 million dogs and about 150 breeds of dogs. In USA and Europe and other parts of the world, the dogs are broadly categorized into various types such as Terrier, Hound, Bull, Working, Herding, Toy, Sporting and Non-Sporting dogs. Even in the similar categories, the dogs vary in appearances, anatomy, habits, food and the utility from one breed to another and from one region to another. Owing to its extreme loyalty, intelligence, trainability and several other traits, dogs are the most favored pets for human beings.
