Facts about Dogs Akita American Breed Information and Akita American Puppies Pictures

American Akita or simply Akita is a breed of dog from the mountainous regions of Japan but in many countries except USA and Canada, it is considered as a separate breed from Japanese Akita. Until 2005, American Akita was known as Great Japanese Dog. The overall appearance of American Akita shows that it is adaptable to the severe cold weathers of the northern regions. It has a large bear like head, stout and erect posture, triangular ears, small, dark and deeply-set eyes.

American Akita has thick double coats, tight and well knuckled feet and a graceful tail that sweeps down into a gentle double curl. Average weight of mature male Akita is around 50 kg and it has a height of about 27 inches. Females are slightly smaller in height but substantially lower in weights. Temperaments of Akita include a great mix of dignity, courage, alertness, loyalty and affection to the masters, among others. Akita is a relatively newer variety of dogs that has gained tremendous popularity due to its captivating personality and extraordinary appearance.
