Facts about Dogs Cairn Terrier Breed Information and Cairn Terrier Puppies Pictures

Cairn Terrier is a little dog and one of the oldest breeds of terriers. Cairn Terriers, originated in Scottish Highlands, are used as working and hunting dogs for for burrowing the prey from the cairns, the large rock piles. Usually left pawed Cairn Terriers are ratters and known to search, catch and kill rats, rodents, rabbits, mice and squirrels from cairns and also from cupboards and other inaccessible areas at home.



Cairn Terrier has a fox like expression with broad head proportionate to the body length, medium length strong muzzle, black nose, deep, wide-set hazel colored eyes with shaggy eyebrows and small erect ears. They have a shaggy double coat with harsh and weather-resistant outer coat and a soft under coat. The coat comes in numerous colors except white, and including red, brindle, black, sand, and different shades of gray. During its lifespan, Cairn terrier changes its coat color many times. The size of an adult male Cairn Terrier is 13-17 pounds weight and 10-13 inches height. They are adventurous, intelligent, strong and loyal breed of dogs. Besides being extensively used as working dogs in many parts of Scotland, they are also used as family companion dogs.
